The Profiles in History ‘Icons of Hollywood Auction’ catalog does away with the traditional “Hollywood Auction” numbering format (which ended with 44?), and is now available as a free PDF download on their official site, with hardcopies available for purchase as well. Julien’s Auctions has today announced their next events, a pairing of two sales – “Hollywood & Marilyn Monroe” and “Sports & Rock ‘n Roll”, both under the “Icons and Idols” banner and each two-day sales, with the former scheduled for December 1st and 2nd and the latter for December 3rd and 4th. Both live auction events will be at their Beverly Hills facility.
Over the past few months, the Internet has been buzzing about on location filming for some of the upcoming blockbuster superhero-genre movies (in 2012 and 2013), with on location filming in American cities. As such, all manner of photos and videos have been shared online, offering glimpses into both “first look” images of costumes and sets, as well as a look into the film making process itself. The second successive Superman reboot (now with Zack Snyder directing), Man of Steel, has been shooting in Plano, IL, the third of the Chris Nolan Batman films, The Dark Knight Rises, has been filming in Pittsburgh, PA, and Marvel Comics’ launch of The Avengers franchise team movie helmmed by Joss Whedon has set up location shooting in Cleveland, OH. Maynards in British Columbia, Canada is holding a three day liquidation sale of original material from Smallville at two locations – one offering set decorations and props while the other is selling wardrobe and costume pieces. As reported over recent weeks, Antique Helper offered a collection of mostly Superman-related costumes and memorabilia yesterday, the descriptions of which included caveats and disclaimers as to provenance and authenticity. Generally, the auction results for the costumes highlighted in the prior articles were lackluster, in terms of comparable confirmed authentic examples of the same style and type of wardrobe pieces.
