Troika Brodsky is a hobbyist who has, over the past ten years or so, amassed the largest personal collection of Lord of the Rings props, costumes, and other material from the film trilogy. The collection will be auctioned by Julien’s Auctions (see official site) on December 5th as their “Trilogy Collection: Props & Costumes from Middle-Earth” auction event. The collection will also be part of a public exhibition at Newbridge Silverware Museum of Style Icons (MOSI) in Kildare, Ireland from October 23rd to November 17th.

Julien’s Auctions has published the online catalog for their upcoming sale – “Icons and Idols” – which will be held at their Beverly Hills gallery on November 8th, 9th, and 10th. The first day of the three days of auction will feature Property from the Estate of William Travilla, which includes over 400 items encompassing original costumes, costume sketches, awards, and more. This collection will be on exhibit at Newbridge Silverware’s Museum of Style Icons in Ireland prior to the sale. The following two days will feature a variety of Hollywood memorabilia with 800 lots including Clayton Moore’s Lone Ranger mask, a 1942 Academy Award, and a number of items from Marilyn Monroe, Stan Laurel, Mary Pickford, Cyd Charisse, Walter Matthau, and more.

James Bond Lotus Esprit Movie Prop Car Submarine from “The Spy Who Loved Me” Sells for Nearly $1M in RM Auctions Sale
One of the more interesting lots in the RM Auctions sale in London this week – the highly customized Lotus Esprit that was converted into a submarine in the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) – hammered for £550,000, which translates to about $968,000 with fees. While it did not meet pre-sale estimate expectations that were set at £650,000-£950,000, it is a significant sale none the less, and certainly improves upon the price paid by the buyer who purchased the contents of a New York storage container for a mere $100 about 24 years ago. The most recognizable prop from Dexter, Showtime’s hit cable television series that is coming to an end with the current Season 8, is Dexter Morgan’s boat, “Slice of Life”. The original, fully-functional boat used throughout all eight seasons of the series by Michael C. Hall is coming up for public auction, set to begin with the airing of the final episode.
