Today, Prop Store listed an interesting item from the popular Harry Potter series of films, the main character’s “hero invisibility cloak”. It seems to be a rare piece from the movies, but having never personally seen any of the movies myself, or handled the wardrobe piece first hand, I cannot verify the claims that it can be screen-matched to the same piece as seen (or not seen?) in the series. It is also not clear from the description what would distinguish this item, attributed as the hero piece, from any of the stunt versions of the cloaks. [Read more…]
Swann Galleries Presents “Property from the Estate of Filmmaker Gary Winick” Auction in NYC on April 4th
Swann Galleries will be holding a two-part auction of the “Property from the Estate of Fillmaker Gary Winick” and “19th and 20th Century Photographs and Photobooks” on April 4th in New York. Gary Winick, a director and producer, tragically died after a struggle with brain cancer and complications that followed. He passed at the age of 49 about a year ago. [Read more…]

Nate D Sanders Auction Offers the Sale of Fourteen Academy Award Oscar Statues, to be Sold February 28th
Los Angeles based auction house Nate D Sanders is this month offering for sale an extraordinary number of Academy Awards as part of their monthly auction. The rare and highly coveted Oscar statue awards (in part due to the fact that AMPAS retain right of first refusal to buy back those awarded after 1950 – see past related story), seldom have come up for auction and it is very unusual to see so many offered in a single sale. Editorial: December Entertainment Memorabilia Pop Culture Auction Review and “The Bubble”
Now that I am back in the States, I thought I would take the time to review the results of the overwhelming number entertainment memorabilia auctions that took place throughout the month of December. Interestingly, while I personally met with a number of participants in our field while traveling in England and France this month, the one unsolicited and seemingly universal topic brought up by all was the question of “the Bubble”. Is there a bubble? If so, what are the contributing factors, and when and how will it burst? And what would the consequences be on our art market? Auctioneer Anderson & Garland are holding a “Costume Sale” in Newcastle on Saturday, October 8th, with ability to bid online as well. Material comes from the Bazaar costume hire shops in Sunderland, Darlington, and Newcastle Upon Tyne.
