The online catalog for the Premiere Props “Hollywood Auction Extravaganza VIII”, scheduled for December 8-9, is now listed via online bidding partners iCollector and LiveAuctioneers. The auction purports to include over 1,000 lots from various film and television productions, though as of this writing, only ten items are listed. If past auctions are any indication, the sale will likely include are a substantial number of replica props and general memorabilia. [Read more…]
Lucasfilm vs Ainsworth Legal Battle Aftermath & Update: Andrew Ainsworth Owes Lawyers £3.5 Million
Following the UK Supreme Court ruling well over a year ago, legal website The Lawyer today reports that Andrew Ainsworth owes the legal firm that represented him in his dispute with Lucasfilm about £3.5 million. Per the report, “[t]he case was brought on a conditional fee arrangement (CFA), and usually the court will order the losing side to cover the other’s costs”. Since one issue was decided in favor of Ainsworth, and the other in favor of Lucasfilm, Ainsworth was never awarded a costs order, thus sticking him with a legal bill well into millions of dollars. Ainsworth is quoted in the article noting that his legal team “gained a lot of kudos” for their apparently free (at this point) legal defense, though it will be interesting to continue to follow to see if his lawyers believe that they received £3.5 million pounds worth of kudos. eBay Auction: “Jurassic Park Cryocan SCREEN-USED PROP Original COA” for $5,000 is “NOT A REPLICA”
A friend of mine last night pointed me to an eBay auction, that is much like many of listings in the “Entertainment Memorabilia > Movie Memorabilia > Props > Originals” category on eBay… it features claims of an original prop, and absolutely nothing is done to demonstrate it as such and validate the marketing claims. In addition with this one – a “Jurassic Park Cryocan SCREEN-USED PROP Original”, offered for sale by ridaeb, this “original” prop offered for sale to the public for $5,000… uses the same photo of a prop that is clearly identified as a fan made replica/reproduction on another site (and the eBay version of the photo has the watermark seen on YourProps cropped out). Mirror Mirror or Deja Vu? Premiere Props “Mirror Mirror” Movie Props and Costumes (including “the one and only one”) in Back To Back Auctions?
Mark Short published an interesting article on his “Propstop” blog last night concerning the March 10th ‘Hollywood Movie Costume Live Auction’ held by Premiere Props. While I had already reported on some confusing elements of the sale leading up to it (see “‘Hollywood Movie Costume Live Auction’, Confusion Regarding Material Offered at Auction” and “Premiere Props Adds Some “Hollywood” to their ‘Hollywood Movie Costume Live Auction’”), what Mark observed during the live auction and uncovered in his subsequent research looking at this week’s subsequent Premiere Props sale raises new questions about some of the few “Hollywood” lots from Mirror Mirror (2012) that comprised the now concluded “Hollywood” auction, with one piece sold therein earlier this month described as “the one and only” and the same piece being added to this weekend’s upcoming auction catalog. Premiere Props Adds Some “Hollywood” to their ‘Hollywood Movie Costume Live Auction’ Sale Event on March 10th & 11th
Premiere Props has updated the online catalog for their “Hollywood Movie Costume Live Auction”, since the Original Prop Blog article previewing the sale was published on March 4th. As noted in that article, confusion surrounded the fact that it was unclear which costumes, if any, were made for and/or used in film and/or television productions. Today, just three days prior to the beginning of the two day sale event, approximately a little over 100 additional lots have been added to Session 1 on March 10th, most of which are items attributed to use in film and television. I also have confirmation from the publicist for Premiere Props that “[t]he theatrical costumes were used in stage productions – not in film and television” (i.e. the original 2,800+ lots). Premiere Props ‘Hollywood Movie Costume Live Auction’ to be Held March 10th & 11th, Confusion Regarding Material Offered at Auction
The online catalog for the Premiere Props “Hollywood Movie Costume Live Auction”, scheduled for March 10th and 11th, is now listed online via bidding partners iCollector and LiveAuctioneers. The two-day auction includes “85,000 rental costumes”. Perusing the catalog, the bulk of the material has no attribution to any film or television productions within the lot descriptions; the only specific attributions are a relative handful described as from a variety of stage productions and musicals.
