Visionary Conceptual Artist and Designer Ralph McQuarrie Passes Away at Age 82

Legendary conceptual designer and artist Ralph McQuarrie, best known for his work on the original Star Wars trilogy, passed away today at age 82.  His vision was fundamental in the creation of many characters and worlds in popular films, and is greatly respected in the industry and by fans.  Having passed today, a number of sentiments are being expressed on the Internet as news spreads.  As a huge fan of Star Wars myself, I truly appreciate his significant contributions to the works and his contributions to other important films, including Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and E.T. Search for Original Vintage Television Material (TV Props, Costumes, Studio Assets) from ABC’s “F Troop” for Museum Exhibit

I’ve offered to help in efforts to find original material (props, costumes, set pieces, other production assets) from the American sitcom “F Troop”, which originally aired in the U.S. from late 1965 through early 1967.  There is hope that material can be found and loaned to be part of an upcoming museum exhibition which will run for approximately two years. Superman, Batman, The Avengers Invade American Cities with On Location Filming (Plano, IL – Pittsburgh, PA – Cleveland, OH)

Over the past few months, the Internet has been buzzing about on location filming for some of the upcoming blockbuster superhero-genre movies (in 2012 and 2013), with on location filming in American cities.  As such, all manner of photos and videos have been shared online, offering glimpses into both “first look” images of costumes and sets, as well as a look into the film making process itself.  The second successive Superman reboot (now with Zack Snyder directing), Man of Steel, has been shooting in Plano, IL, the third of the Chris Nolan Batman films, The Dark Knight Rises, has been filming in Pittsburgh, PA, and Marvel Comics’ launch of The Avengers franchise team movie helmmed by Joss Whedon has set up location shooting in Cleveland, OH. “Star Wars: The Blueprints” Book To Feature Original Production Material from Lucasfilm Archives, Now Available To Order Online

A new book, Star Wars: The Blueprints, has been announced via the official website for the work, which includes a video trailer, sample pages, and a great deal of information about the incredible tome.  The limited release book features blueprints from the Lucasfilm Archives and has been put together by author J.W. ‘Smallville’ TV Prop, Wardrobe, Set Decoration Liquidation Sale at Maynards in British Columbia

Maynards in British Columbia, Canada is holding a three day liquidation sale of original material from Smallville at two locations – one offering set decorations and props while the other is selling wardrobe and costume pieces.  The sale is April 28-30th.  The CW show is ending the series next month, after 10 years of production.
