San Diego Comic-Con 2019: Batman Film Used Cowls
This is part of my ongoing coverage of San Diego Comic-Con 2019. I actually lost track of exactly who the exhibitor was for these Batman cowls, but there was Batman-related merchandise on display. This case included examples of Batman cowls worn in the films from Michael Keaton to Val Kilmer to George Clooney to Christian Bale to Ben Affleck. [Read more…]

San Diego Comic-Con 2019: Comedy Central’s Crank Yankers
This is part of my ongoing coverage of San Diego Comic-Con 2019. Comedy Central is rebooting the old Crank Yankers show (originally created by Adam Carolla and Jimmy Kimmel. I actually used to watch the original, as I moved to L.A. in 1995 when Adam was Mr. Birchum and Jimmy was the sports guy on KROQ, so I’ve followed their careers for many decades now. This exhibit was pretty fun and interesting, as you could pick up a phone and hear pre-recorded crank calls. Maybe just as funny was watching younger attendees puzzled about how telephones work. In any event, the staff said that these were original, production used puppets, so they qualified for some coverage on the Original Prop Blog. [Read more…]

This is part of my ongoing coverage of San Diego Comic-Con 2019. This year there was an exhibit for Saban’s Power Rangers. I don’t know anything at all about Power Rangers, but they appeared to be production used costumes, so I thought some readers might enjoy the photos.. [Read more…]
San Diego Comic-Con 2019: Regal Robot (by Tom Spina)
This is part of my ongoing coverage of San Diego Comic-Con 2019. Tom Spina was one of the first collectors I came into contact with back in 2002, and one of the first guys I met in person in 2005. As Tom and his businesses – Regal Robot (“art decor and furniture”) and Tom Spina Designs (“unique creations for marketing, trade shows, theme parks, film/video, collectors, museums… anyone!”)- are based on the east coast, I was thrilled to learn that he was not only attending San Diego Comic Con this year, but also exhibiting as Regal Robot. He brought along a lot of cool merch (as an official licensee for his Star Wars products). Of course, Tom is know all around the world for the peerless work of he and his colleagues in not only their creative work but restoration and display work for original props, costumes, and other film and television production assets.
