2012 is Prop Store’s fifth year exhibiting at Comic Con in San Diego, and they continue to improve on their visually pleasing presentation and wide ranging original props and costumes on display. This year, the centerpiece holding the front corner spot is John Hurt’s spacesuit from Ridley Scott’s Alien (1979). Again, the booth features both items from their private collection as well as material for sale (the latter at a variety of price points). [Read more…]
Announcement: The Rock Subculture Journal
As I mentioned in my Original Prop Blog Five Year Anniversary article published a few days ago, one of the projects I have been working on is a new website for music. Today, this site has launched as the Rock Subculture Journal, which can be found at: www.RockSubculture.com. My objective is to publish articles about collecting original rock and pop music memorabilia (much as I do here with television and movie props and costumes), but also to publish reviews, tips, news, and other content about the rock music culture and events. The Original Prop Blog Celebrates Its Five Year Anniversary
Today – April 5th, 2012 – marks the five year anniversary of launching this website, the Original Prop Blog. In Spring 2007, I published the first article, “The Hobby Without A Name…”, though I didn’t have any idea I would still be writing articles five years later, and I wouldn’t have imagined writing approximately 1,559 of them (currently a 5 year average of 0.87 articles per day since launch, which is quite a lot considering I am the sole contributor). San Diego Comic Con 2011: Event Recap, Impressions, Experiences
As has been tradition with coverage by the Original Prop Blog (2010, 2009, 2008), I thought I would share my overall impressions of Comic Con in San Diego this year. As always, it was an incredible event, though if I came away with one overall thought, it would be looking to the future and how the convention will continue to evolve over the coming years. More than ever, this year it seemed to come off the rails a bit more (in both good and bad ways) and the big question that remains outstanding is if San Diego can continue to both accommodate and manage the incredible attraction as it remains the “all things to all people” global pop culture celebration phenomenon. This feature takes an in-depth look at pieces from Star Trek: Wrath of Khan, The Empire Strikes Back, Drive Angry, Gladiator, Batman Returns, and Predator. [Read more…]
San Diego Comic Con 2011: Video Interview with Stephen Lane, Prop Store (Star Trek, Scarface, The Fifth Element)
As part of my ongoing coverage of Comic Con 2011 and as has been tradition (see 2008, 2009, 2010), Prop Store CEO Stephen Lane took the time to show off some of the amazing props and costumes on display at their exhibit area. This year, Stephen provided some insights and a closer look at the ZF-1 weapon from The Fifth Element, Tony Montana’s green card from Scarface, and a uniform worn by Uhura in the original Star Trek series. In addition, they brought a number of original props from the upcoming Men in Black 3, not due to hit theaters until 2012. [Read more…]
San Diego Comic Con 2011: Prop Store Brings “Comic Khan”-Centric Exhibit to Show
2011 marks Prop Store’s third year as an exhibitor at Comic Con in San Diego, and as has been the case in the past, they have brought an assortment of props and costumes from an assortment of film and television programs. As part of their t-shirt promotion this year, they have billed their experience “Comic Khan”, which is emblazoned across the shirts and the Khan costume from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is in the coveted display case spot at the corner of their exhibit.
