20th Century Props Liquidation Continues; Prop Rental Business Listed on eBay for $1.5 Million Dollars
Liquidation of assets following the much publicized closure of 20th Century Props continues, following a number of auctions held by Great American Group and now, Super Auctions. The business also has a standing eBay listing for $1.5 million dollars for the remaining assets and rights to the business itself. “LOST” Images from Disney’s D23 Expo, Exhibit by Profiles in History Promoting May 2010 Auction
As reported back in June (see “D23 Expo” at Anaheim Convention Center in September 2009 to Feature “Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives”), Disney held a fan expo this past weekend. Included among the exhibits was one from Profiles in History which promoted the upcoming final season of LOST as well as their subsequent auction of original props, costumes, and other assets from the hit television series. Following a significant amount of mainstream media coverage, 20th Century Props held an auction of its assets July 28th-August 1st, which was managed by Great American Group. Building on the Original Prop Lexicon: “Anti-Provenance”
I’ve found that there are many concepts in the original prop hobby for which words do not exist. Having words to use with specific and unique meaning are powerful tools, and when there are none available that fit the need, putting together a new word with hopes it may be adopted can be productive. In this case, a term is needed to describe an instance in which the source or an entity in the chain of ownership of a prop, costume, or other artifact has a distinctive and negative impact on the authentication of such a piece. The word I plan to use to describe such a circumstance is “anti-provenance”. [Read more…]
