The catalog is now (partially) online for the Premiere Props “Fangoria Annual Horror Movie Prop Auction”, scheduled for October 26. Though the auction is only about a week away, some of the promised “over 500 lots” are now listed with online bidding partners iCollector, LiveAuctioneers, and ArtFact. Currently, the sale breaks at Lot 217 and then jumps ahead to Lot 467, and runs through Lot 509.
Troika Brodsky, special guest. This is the eighteenth ‘Prop Talk’ podcast by the Original Prop Blog. Troika Brodsky is a hobbyist who has, over the past ten years or so, amassed the largest personal collection of Lord of the Rings props, costumes, and other material from the film trilogy. The collection will be auctioned by Julien’s Auctions (see official site) on December 5th as their “Trilogy Collection: Props & Costumes from Middle-Earth” auction event. The collection will also be part of a public exhibition at Newbridge Silverware Museum of Style Icons (MOSI) in Kildare, Ireland from October 23rd to November 17th.

Since I have been publishing the Original Prop Blog for about six and a half years as a free resource to the public, I thought I would add one article (about of about 1,645 to date) to make note of and promote a few of my own auction consignments in the upcoming Julien’s Auctions “Icons and Idols” sale taking place in Beverly Hills on November 8th, 9th, and 10th. Items from my personal collection included in this sale include six movie prop pistols: a Walther PPK used by Timothy Dalton as James Bond in Licence To Kill, a Colt pistol used by Al Pacino in Michael Mann’s Heat, the .38 Detective Special pistol used by both Pam Grier and Robert Forester in Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown, a customized pistol used by Bridget Fonda in Point Of No Return, a Winchester shotgun used by Juliette Lewis In Oliver Stone’s Natural Born Killers, and a Glock 17 pistol used by Matt Damon as Jason Bourne in The Bourne Ultimatum. Julien’s Auctions today announced “The Trilogy Collection: Props & Costumes from Middle Earth”. The auction event is scheduled for December 5th at their showroom in Beverly Hills. The offering boasts the largest offering of original material (props, costumes, and other original assets) from a single collector from the trilogy of movies directed by Peter Jackson (The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King) and based on the J.R.R. Tolkien best-selling fantasy novel, The Lord of the Rings. Material from the films include Frodo’s “Sting” sword, Gimli’s axe, Aragorn’s sword, Gandalf’s staff, and more. [Read more…]
Lots for Premiere Props’ September auction have been listed online with online bidding partners iCollector, LiveAuctioneers, and ArtFact as part of their “Hollywood Extravaganza XI”. The two-day auction is scheduled for September 28-29, currently featuring over 800 lots. As is their usual procedure, Premiere Props has put up a portion of the lots for their upcoming sale (Hollywood Extravaganza XI on September 28-29) with online bidding partner iCollector, though with these lots each includes boilerplate information about authentication that has not been part of past auctions. Back in May, I made a public and literal plea for Premiere Props to put a real and substantive effort into authentication of their consignor-based auction material, and whether or not it is merely coincidental, it appears that they are doing just that starting with this upcoming auction, with “a panel of industry experts not affiliated with Premiere Props” called MovieProps DNA (MPDNA). While the “soft launch” of these changes raises many questions (which I will outline below), it is certain a significant step in the right direction. [Read more…]
