Premier Collectible Auctions – Catalog Out, Online Bidding Live
As reported in early April (see “Premier Collectible Auctions“), a new auction service has launched, with the first live auction event being held in San Diego in conjunction with the San Diego Comic Con, July 24-26, 2008. While primarily a vintage toy auction (Star Wars, G.I. Joe, Transformers, etc.), there are some original props and memorabilia included in the auction, as noted in the last article. Brian’s Toys and Collectible Investment Brokerage/Cloud City Collectibles is behind this new venture.

eBay Live Auction Format Being Retired at End of 2008
eBay Vice President Jim Ambach announced today that eBay is discontinuing its Live Auction format services at the end of the year, citing an effort to improve “buying and selling experiences”. The “Live Auction” format differs from eBay’s traditional business model of scheduled, “online-only” auctions, and typically (as it relates to original props, wardrobe, and memorabilia auctions from movies and television) provides collectors the ability to bid on items auctioned “live” over the Internet, in real time, in lieu of being present at the actual auction event with people bidding in person, with the auctioneer recognizing “floor” bids, telephone bids, absentee bids, and online bids. Profiles in History 31 was held yesterday and today, with the majority props being auctioned today at Profiles in Calabasas Hills, over the Internet via eBay Live Auctions, and by phone.

Well, the much talked about event has now come and gone. So what happened?
Not having attended the event, or bid on any items, all I can really do is report on discussions from online forums and review the results of the auction.
