The entire first season of Prop Culture is dropping on the Disney+ streaming service starting May 1, 2020, featuring all eight episodes. San Diego Comic-Con 2018: Editorial & General Photography
So I’ve been attending San Diego Comic Con since 1987 (when I was 14 years old), so I have a lot of history with the world’s most famous annual pop culture gathering. Some years are better than others, though for several years running it has, from a subjective standpoint, felt like it was overall in decline (weighing the positives and negatives). However, I believe that things have shifted direction in 2018, so here are my thoughts on Comic-Con International this time around. [Read more…]
San Diego Comic-Con 2018: Marvel Entertainment Part 4/Saturday “Women” & Part 5/Sunday “Villains” Costume Exhibit
This is part of my ongoing coverage of San Diego Comic-Con 2018. Marvel is centrally located in the Exhibit Hall as per usual, and they’ve updated the props and costumes on display daily. This feature will cover both Saturday and Sunday. The photos further below are as the exhibit appeared on Saturday, which featured women as portrayed in MCU films and then Sunday, which featured villains. Also see Wednesday/Part 1 with Iron Man, Thursday/Part 2 with Captain America., and Friday/Part 3 with Thor. [Read more…]
San Diego Comic-Con 2018: Marvel Entertainment Friday/Part 3 “Thor” Costume Exhibit
This is part of my ongoing coverage of San Diego Comic-Con 2018. Marvel is centrally located in the Exhibit Hall as per usual, and they’ve updated the props and costumes on display daily thus far, so this is the third feature in this series. The photos further below are as the exhibit appeared on Friday, and feature Thor costumes as worn by Chris Hemsworth as well as his Mjolnir and Stormbreaker hammers from his appearances in Thor, Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Avengers: Infinity War. Also see Wednesday/Part 1 with Iron Man, Thursday/Part 2 with Captain America and Part 4/Saturday “Women” & Part 5/Sunday “Villains”. [Read more…]
San Diego Comic-Con 2018: Marvel Entertainment Thursday/Part 2 “Captain America” Costume Exhibit
This is part of my ongoing coverage of San Diego Comic-Con 2018. Marvel is centrally located in the Exhibit Hall as per usual, though the exhibit space had original costume pieces up front and in a case this year, which is a departure from their usual open air displays up on the stage. I suspected Marvel might have more up their sleeve than what appeared on exhibit on Preview Night on Wednesday – Iron Man costumes – and stated if they added more as the convention went on, I would update that original article. On Thursday, they added an example of each of the Captain America costumes seen in the related films, and I took so many photos I thought it would be better to publish a second dedicated feature. This one shows the Captain America costumes worn by Chris Evans in Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Avengers: Infinity War. UPDATE Also see Wednesday/Part 1 with Iron Man, Friday/Part 3 with Thor and Part 4/Saturday “Women” & Part 5/Sunday “Villains”. [Read more…]
San Diego Comic-Con 2018: Marvel Entertainment Wednesday/Part 1 “Iron Man” Costume Exhibit
This is part of my ongoing coverage of San Diego Comic-Con 2018. Marvel is centrally located in the Exhibit Hall as per usual, though the exhibit space had original costume pieces up front and in a case this year, which is a departure from their usual open air displays up on the stage. But knowing Marvel, they do have a tendency to change things up each day and there may be more coming (and if that is the case, this feature will be updated). This year on display as of Preview Night, they had an Iron Man Mark I costume from the original Iron Man as well as a helmet and civilian costume worn by Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) in Avengers: Infinity War. UPDATE also see Thursday/Part 2 with Captain America, Friday/Part 3 with Thor and Part 4/Saturday “Women” & Part 5/Sunday “Villains”. [Read more…]
Pulled From Auction? Profiles in History Removes “Screen Used” Obi-Wan Kenobi Lightsaber from “Icons & Legends of Hollywood” Online Auction Catalog
As reported earlier today (LINK), Profiles in History was all over the news in the mainstream media (Associated Press, Page Six, Syfy Wire, etc.) with outlets writing about one of the highlights of their massive four day “Icons & Legends of Hollywood” auction in June – a “screen used” prop lightsaber attributed to use by Sir Alec Guinness as Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. Profiles in History claimed that the “hero” lightsaber had provenance leading back to the late John Mollo, the costume designer on the film who passed away late last year. I pointed to an active discussion on the Replica Prop Forum, with some members openly questioning the authenticity of the piece. It appears that the piece – Lot 775 – has been pulled from the auction, as a fresh download of the online PDF version of the catalog for the sale is two pages lighter. Scanning the now 499 pages, it skips the previous two page spread of Lot 775 entirely. [Read more…]

Head over to the Replica Prop Forum, and there is already a discussion underway, with some members raising questions. [Read more…]
