Charity Auction: Auction Cause Offers Original Props from “Survivor One World” on eBay

As per tradition, as Survivor: One World finished its season on CBS last night, Auction Cause launched an auction on eBay for original assets from the popular reality television series.  With this round of auctions, also included is material from past seasons, under the banner of “Vintage Survivor“.  As is the case with each season, 100% of the final sale price for the items will benefit charity, with this sale benefiting two organizations – Survivor Stand Up To Cancer and The Alliance for Children’s Rights.

Profiles in History Sells ‘Captain America’ Hero Costume for a Quarter of a Million Dollars… Revenge of the “Hype Premium”? Alternate Explanation?

It would appear that auction house Profiles in History had an unbelievable success with their Captain America: The First Avenger Auction event this past weekend, on behalf of Marvel Studios.  The stand out single sale, of course, was “Lot #154 Captain Amerca complete hero suit“, which sold for $233,700 ($190,000 hammer plus $43,700 Buyer’s Premium).  Over a quarter of a million dollars for one of presumably multiple copies of a costume from a movie that was released nine months ago.  I am not easily surprised by anything in this art market, but this I find astounding and shocking.  And my first thought immediately went to a concept discussed on this site in the past – the “Hype Premium” – but even that cannot come close to explaining this auction result.

The Original Prop Blog Celebrates Its Five Year Anniversary

Today – April 5th, 2012 – marks the five year anniversary of launching this website, the Original Prop Blog.  In Spring 2007, I published the first article, “The Hobby Without A Name…”, though I didn’t have any idea I would still be writing articles five years later, and I wouldn’t have imagined writing approximately 1,559 of them (currently a 5 year average of 0.87 articles per day since launch, which is quite a lot considering I am the sole contributor). Prop Store Offers For Sale Harry Potter’s (Daniel Radcliffe) Hero Invisibility Cloak Movie Prop

Today, Prop Store listed an interesting item from the popular Harry Potter series of films, the main character’s “hero invisibility cloak”.  It seems to be a rare piece from the movies, but having never personally seen any of the movies myself, or handled the wardrobe piece first hand, I cannot verify the claims that it can be screen-matched to the same piece as seen (or not seen?) in the series.  It is also not clear from the description what would distinguish this item, attributed as the hero piece, from any of the stunt versions of the cloaks. Dan Levin of Premiere Props Appears on Access Hollywood to Discuss Their “Hollywood Auction Extravaganza V”

Dan Levin from Premiere Props appeared on Access Hollywood today to talk about this weekend’s Hollywood Auction Extravaganza V sale event.  Items discussed in the segment include pieces attributed to Madonna, Liberace, and Michael Jackson.   Strangely, not only do the hosts/talent handle the auction items, one is “almost” sold during the segment, and many of the wardrobe pieces are worn by the hosts as well as they close out the episode.
