This is part of my ongoing coverage of San Diego Comic-Con 2019. Prop Store has been exhibiting at Comic-Con since 2008, and they truly improve the experience every year. For 2019, their big promotional push is for their annual live auction in the Fall, as well as their upcoming Marvel Netflix auctions. [Read more…]
San Diego Comic-Con 2019: Comedy Central’s Crank Yankers
This is part of my ongoing coverage of San Diego Comic-Con 2019. Comedy Central is rebooting the old Crank Yankers show (originally created by Adam Carolla and Jimmy Kimmel. I actually used to watch the original, as I moved to L.A. in 1995 when Adam was Mr. Birchum and Jimmy was the sports guy on KROQ, so I’ve followed their careers for many decades now. This exhibit was pretty fun and interesting, as you could pick up a phone and hear pre-recorded crank calls. Maybe just as funny was watching younger attendees puzzled about how telephones work. In any event, the staff said that these were original, production used puppets, so they qualified for some coverage on the Original Prop Blog. [Read more…]
San Diego Comic-Con 2019: Saban’s Power Rangers
This is part of my ongoing coverage of San Diego Comic-Con 2019. This year there was an exhibit for Saban’s Power Rangers. I don’t know anything at all about Power Rangers, but they appeared to be production used costumes, so I thought some readers might enjoy the photos.. [Read more…]
San Diego Comic-Con 2019: Regal Robot (by Tom Spina)
This is part of my ongoing coverage of San Diego Comic-Con 2019. Tom Spina was one of the first collectors I came into contact with back in 2002, and one of the first guys I met in person in 2005. As Tom and his businesses – Regal Robot (“art decor and furniture”) and Tom Spina Designs (“unique creations for marketing, trade shows, theme parks, film/video, collectors, museums… anyone!”)- are based on the east coast, I was thrilled to learn that he was not only attending San Diego Comic Con this year, but also exhibiting as Regal Robot. He brought along a lot of cool merch (as an official licensee for his Star Wars products). Of course, Tom is know all around the world for the peerless work of he and his colleagues in not only their creative work but restoration and display work for original props, costumes, and other film and television production assets. This is part of my ongoing coverage of San Diego Comic-Con 2019. Marvel is centrally located in the Exhibit Hall as per usual, and they’re updated the props and costumes on display daily. This feature covers Wednesday (i.e. “Preview Night”) and Thursday. The photos further below are as the exhibit appeared on Wednesday, which featured costumes from Captain Marvel. Prop Store also had a display case in the center of the exhibitor space with one of the costumes from their upcoming Marvel Television Live Auction. [Read more…]
San Diego Comic-Con 2019: Star Wars Imperial Stormtrooper Costume Exhibit
This is part of my ongoing coverage of San Diego Comic-Con 2019. There was a large area of the main Exhibit Hall carved out for all things Star Wars, and as has been tradition, they had costumes from all of the films on display, featuring different types of imperial stormtrooper armor. [Read more…]

San Diego Comic-Con 2018: Editorial & General Photography
So I’ve been attending San Diego Comic Con since 1987 (when I was 14 years old), so I have a lot of history with the world’s most famous annual pop culture gathering. Some years are better than others, though for several years running it has, from a subjective standpoint, felt like it was overall in decline (weighing the positives and negatives). However, I believe that things have shifted direction in 2018, so here are my thoughts on Comic-Con International this time around. [Read more…]
