San Diego Comic Con 2011: Event Recap, Impressions, Experiences
As has been tradition with coverage by the Original Prop Blog (2010, 2009, 2008), I thought I would share my overall impressions of Comic Con in San Diego this year. As always, it was an incredible event, though if I came away with one overall thought, it would be looking to the future and how the convention will continue to evolve over the coming years. More than ever, this year it seemed to come off the rails a bit more (in both good and bad ways) and the big question that remains outstanding is if San Diego can continue to both accommodate and manage the incredible attraction as it remains the “all things to all people” global pop culture celebration phenomenon. San Diego Comic Con 2011: Studio Art Technologies Offers Preview of Original Movie Props from ‘Men in Black 3’
Movie prop and costume designers/dealers eFx Collectibles, UD Replicas, Anovos, and Studio Art Technology shared space and brought a lot of great material to Comic Con this year showcasing their sci-fi franchise memorabilia. San Diego Comic Con 2011: Prop Store Brings “Comic Khan”-Centric Exhibit to Show
2011 marks Prop Store’s third year as an exhibitor at Comic Con in San Diego, and as has been the case in the past, they have brought an assortment of props and costumes from an assortment of film and television programs. As part of their t-shirt promotion this year, they have billed their experience “Comic Khan”, which is emblazoned across the shirts and the Khan costume from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is in the coveted display case spot at the corner of their exhibit. San Diego Comic Con 2011: Profiles in History Showcase ‘Back to the Future III’ DeLorean Restored by Brian & Desi DosSantos (ScreenUsed)
Profiles in History, which has a track record of bringing impressive (usually themed) exhibits to Comic Con (Stan Winston Studios, LOST, etc.), this year has a Back to the Future display, which is centered around an original DeLorean from the third film in the franchise, which will be offered for sale in one of their future auctions. The auction house is taking $20 donations for photo opportunities with the famous movie car, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting Team Fox, Michael J. Fox’s Foundation supporting Parkinson’s research. [Read more…]
San Diego Comic Con 2011: Preview Night, Photos of Original TV & Movie Props and Costumes on Exhibit
Wednesday night was the special “preview night” for Comic Con 2011 in San Diego. To kick off annual coverage of original television and movie prop and costume related material from the biggest pop culture event of the year, as is tradition, the Original Prop Blog is publishing photos from the main exhibit hall of Comic Con of some of the related items on exhibit and display. This year includes pieces from Dark Knight, Watchmen, Superman Returns, Inception, The Hangover Part II, 300, The Three Musketeers, and Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance, and Men in Black 3. Ms. Laura Woolley is President of The Collector’s Lab, which provides “individualized, high-level professional and appraisal services to private collectors, institutions, insurance companies, museums, and wealth management professionals”. Ms. Woolley has extensive experience working for and with the premiere auction houses operating in the entertainment memorabilia field, and also serves as an appraiser to the Antiques Roadshow. Ms. Woolley is a Certified member of the Appraiser’s Association of America and has completed the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) examination.
