Julien’s Auctions Announces Historic Sale of Collection of Props from the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, with Exhibition at Newbridge in Ireland and Auction Set for December 5th

Julien’s Auctions today announced “The Trilogy Collection: Props & Costumes from Middle Earth”.  The auction event is scheduled for December 5th at their showroom in Beverly Hills.  The offering boasts the largest offering of original material (props, costumes, and other original assets) from a single collector from the trilogy of movies directed by Peter Jackson (The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King) and based on the J.R.R. Tolkien best-selling fantasy novel, The Lord of the Rings.  Material from the films include Frodo’s “Sting” sword, Gimli’s axe, Aragorn’s sword, Gandalf’s staff, and more. [Read more…]

‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ Fertility Idols In The Marketplace Update 2013

With their latest “Entertainment Memorabilia” sale event in Knightsbridge on July 3rd, Bonhams is offering for public sale a second fertility idol attributed to use in Raiders of the Lost Ark with paperwork from industry veteran Kit West.  Due to public interest in discussing iconic props from the Indiana Jones films, and confusion in the marketplace with regards to the provenance and authentication of such pieces, I thought it appropriate to update my ongoing series of articles on the topic with the new information and photos (see: Raiders of the Lost Ark Fertility Idols In The Marketplace). The Heritage Auction Galleries has published on their latest online catalog and listings for their upcoming event, “Entertainment & Music Memorabilia Signature Auction – Dallas #7074”, to be held March 30th at their Dallas, Texas location.  The preview for this auction is March 28-30.  As per usual, the bulk of the material skews toward vintage/classic Hollywood stars (Marilyn Monroe, Glenn Ford, Walter Matthau, etc.)  and a good deal of personally owned items/estate items, as well as iconic music rock and roll items (The Beatles, Elvis, etc.).
