With their upcoming sale, The Dreier Collection, Part 1, a few principals in our art market have raised questions with me privately with regards to one of the items listed for auction, Lot 106 GEORGE REEVES “SUPERMAN” CAPE FROM THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN. Dan Levin from Premiere Props appeared on Access Hollywood today to talk about this weekend’s Hollywood Auction Extravaganza V sale event. Items discussed in the segment include pieces attributed to Madonna, Liberace, and Michael Jackson. Strangely, not only do the hosts/talent handle the auction items, one is “almost” sold during the segment, and many of the wardrobe pieces are worn by the hosts as well as they close out the episode.

FBI Press Release: “Three Men Plead Guilty to Fraud Involving Sports Memorabilia”
As reported by various mainstream media outlets this week (New York Daily News original report, NY Daily News follow-up, Forbes, WREX-13), several memorabilia dealers plead guilty this week to fraud charges related to the sale of “game worn” sports jerseys. Sentencing is scheduled for May 2012, and each maul fraud charge has a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and $250,000 fines. Though a different class of memorabilia from television and film, it is always encouraging to see the FBI direct attention to any sort of memorabilia fraud, as it is very prevalent in all collecting areas.
