James Bond Lotus Esprit Movie Prop Car Submarine from “The Spy Who Loved Me” Sells for Nearly $1M in RM Auctions Sale
One of the more interesting lots in the RM Auctions sale in London this week – the highly customized Lotus Esprit that was converted into a submarine in the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) – hammered for £550,000, which translates to about $968,000 with fees. While it did not meet pre-sale estimate expectations that were set at £650,000-£950,000, it is a significant sale none the less, and certainly improves upon the price paid by the buyer who purchased the contents of a New York storage container for a mere $100 about 24 years ago. San Diego Comic Con 2013: Original TV & Movie Props and Costumes on Display and Exhibit
This is actually the lightest year in some time for original props and costumes on display at Comic Con International: San Diego, apart from the usual showing by Profiles in History and Prop Store. Vincent Vega’s Stolen 1964 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu Movie Prop Car Used in Tarantino’s ‘Pulp Fiction’ Found & Recovered
The cherry red 1964 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu used by John Travolta’s character in Quentin Tarantino’s film, Pulp Fiction, was reported stolen back in 1994 during the production of the Academy Award-winning movie. Friend of the Original Prop Blog – David Oliver of Propmasters – has provided some photos to share with readers of his recent visit to The National Motor Museum in the United Kingdom. The museum is currently featuring a year long exhibition of the world’s largest collection of vehicles used in James Bond films, as reported last month.

I just wanted to give a public congratulations to my friend Tom Spina and all his cohorts over at Tom Spina Designs for their outstanding work on the new Star Wars themed commercial produced for the Superbowl this month. The ad, “The Dog Strikes Back: 2012 Volkswagen Game Day Commercial” features a cut to a stunning recreation of the A New Hope Mos Eisley Cantina, with creature masks, prosthetics, and some costumes made by the Tom Spina Designs team (10 aliens in total). Exhibition: “Bond in Motion – 50 Vehicles – 50 Years” at Beaulieu’s National Motor Museum
The National Motor Museum in the United Kingdom will be featuring a year long exhibition of the world’s largest collection of vehicles used in James Bond films, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Bond franchise, 40th anniversary of the National Motor Museum, and 60th anniversary of Beaulieu. On display will be 50 vehicles used by Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig in their respective James Bond films. [Read more…]
