The entire first season of Prop Culture is dropping on the Disney+ streaming service starting May 1, 2020, featuring all eight episodes. The series by ABC Studios and Cinema Relics Productions and distributed by Disney+ is a documentary/docuseries featuring host and Executive Producer Dan Lanigan as he revisits popular Disney films from the perspective of learning more about the people who brought the movies to life as well as taking a closer look at the props, costumes, and other production assets, techniques and effects employed in each. Han Solo Blaster from “Return of the Jedi” Sold By Julien’s Auctions for $550,000 to Ripley’s Believe It Or Not
As mentioned back in April, I had assisted Julien’s Auctions in cataloging “The James L. Schoppe Star Wars: Return of the Jedi Production Archive” that was featured in their “Hollywood Legends” auction this past weekend at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The highlight of the collection was an original Han Solo blaster movie prop from Return of the Jedi; James Schoppe served as the Art Director on the film, and was gifted several original props at the conclusion of the film production. The collection was sold in live auction on Saturday, June 23rd, and the Han Solo blaster sold for $550,000 including Buyer’s Premium, and the winning bidder was Ripley’s Believe it or Not. Today, Julien’s Auctions has announced that an original Han Solo blaster movie prop used in Return of the Jedi will be in their upcoming Hollywood Legends auction at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on June 23rd. The prop is one of the most exciting pieces to come to market from the original Star Wars trilogy in years, and it is a highlight of “The James L. Schoppe Star Wars: Return of the Jedi Production Archive”, with the entire collection coming directly from the Academy Award nominated Art Director who worked on the film. Jason DeBord of Original Prop Blog Featured as Memorabilia Expert Authenticator on Latest “Pawn Stars” Episode (“Rick’s Roulette”) for Flash Gordon Prop Rocketship
I am featured in the History Channel’s popular cable reality series, Pawn Stars, in the latest episode debuting this week, “Rick’s Roulette” (Season 2015, Episode 27). I served as the Hollywood memorabilia expert and authenticator for one of the segments of this episode, taking a look at a prop model attributed to the Flash Gordon serials of the 1930s. This was filmed in December 2014 at Julien’s Auctions, when I was in town helping Colin Cantwell bring his Star Wars original artwork from 1974/1975 and other movie and television memorabilia to auction. Fantastic Fan Made Super 8 Behind the Scenes Video Footage from ‘Return of the Jedi’ by Jeff Broz
Some fan made video showing on set, behind the scenes film from the making of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi was published on YouTube yesterday. Filmed on Super 8 in 1982 in Buttercup Valley, California, the footage features shots of Jabba the Hutt’s sandbarge and incredible action shots of Luke Skywalker fighting his henchmen, Boba Fett flying sequences, and more. Superman, Batman, The Avengers Invade American Cities with On Location Filming (Plano, IL – Pittsburgh, PA – Cleveland, OH)
Over the past few months, the Internet has been buzzing about on location filming for some of the upcoming blockbuster superhero-genre movies (in 2012 and 2013), with on location filming in American cities. As such, all manner of photos and videos have been shared online, offering glimpses into both “first look” images of costumes and sets, as well as a look into the film making process itself. The second successive Superman reboot (now with Zack Snyder directing), Man of Steel, has been shooting in Plano, IL, the third of the Chris Nolan Batman films, The Dark Knight Rises, has been filming in Pittsburgh, PA, and Marvel Comics’ launch of The Avengers franchise team movie helmmed by Joss Whedon has set up location shooting in Cleveland, OH.
