The print and online catalogs are now available, and online bidding is now live for Prop Store’s third annual Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction. It will be held at the Odeon BFI IMAX in Waterloo, London on September 27th. The live event features more than 579 lots of props, costumes and other film and television memorabilia. This is part of my ongoing coverage of San Diego Comic-Con 2016. This year, auction house Profiles in History had an all-artwork exhibit, with pieces from their upcoming Frank Darabont Collection on display, including Frank Frazetta works among the highlights. Profiles has marketed “Sea Witch” as “The Only Million Dollar Art Piece at Comic-Con” and “The Single Most Important and Most Valuable Frazetta Painting to EVER be Offered At Auction (pre-sale estimate of $1,000,000 – $1,500,000)”, so it will be interesting to see if it meets the reserve at the July 30th auction. I have been reporting on Profiles in History as registered press at Comic Con International every year for the past nine years (see articles from 2008, 2009 Part 1 & 2009 Part 2, 2010 Part 1 & 2010 Part 2, 2011, 2012, 2013 Part 1 & 2013 Part 2, 2014, 2015), but this is the first in which they did not exhibit any TV and/or movie props and costumes. ScreenUsed is holding their next two-day, quarterly live auction on Friday, July 15th and Saturday, July 16th. Day 1 lots will end in the automated online auction every 1 minute (with extension if bids placed toward the end). Day 2 will include the higher end material and the auction will be run manually.
U.S. District Judge Percy Anderson issued a temporary restraining ordering blocking Heritage Auctions from selling Whitney Houston’s 1986 Emmy Award for “Saving All My Love for You” at auction. Their “Entertainment & Music Memorabilia Signature Auction – Beverly Hills” took place on June 24th and 25th. In spite of the piece being pulled from auction and returned to the Houston family, the remaining lots of her personal property and memorabilia brought in approximately half a million dollars. The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences had filed a lawsuit against Heritage Auctions to stop the sale of the Statue, which they contend is a loan to recipients and their families, not a gift that can be offered for sale to the highest bidder. The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has filed a lawsuit against Heritage Auctions as well as a consignor in their current auction, Whitney Houston’s estate, in an effort to block the sale of her 1986 Emmy Award for “Saving All My Love for You”, which she performed at the Grammy’s.
