I’ve found that there are many concepts in the original prop hobby for which words do not exist. Having words to use with specific and unique meaning are powerful tools, and when there are none available that fit the need, putting together a new word with hopes it may be adopted can be productive. In this case, a term is needed to describe an instance in which the source or an entity in the chain of ownership of a prop, costume, or other artifact has a distinctive and negative impact on the authentication of such a piece. “D23 Expo” at Anaheim Convention Center in September 2009 to Feature “Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives”
It was recently announced that Disney will be holding it’s own fan convention and expo, which will also feature an exhibition of the “Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives”, including original movie and television props, costumes, and other artifacts. “The Robert De Niro Collection” at the Harry Ransom Center, University of Texas at Austin
Robert De Niro donated his personal collection of 8,000 costume, prop, and makeup items from fifty-six motion pictures and two theater productions to the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin in 2006. Copyright Dispute Over Use Of Hitler’s Globe as Prop in “Valkyrie”
The New York Post reports today that the owner of a historical artifact – one that an American soldier plucked from Hitler’s “Eagle’s Nest” in the Bavarian Alps at the close of World War II – is contemplating legal action against United Artists for the prominent use of a replica of the globe in the latest Tom Cruise film, Bryan Singer’s Valkyrie.
