New Talk of a Hollywood History Museum Backed By AMPAS and LACMA – “The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures”
Last night the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art announced plans for a museum dedicated to the history of movies, tentatively called “The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures”, it is intended to take over the former May Company Department Store building near LACMA. San Diego Comic Con 2011: Prop Store Brings “Comic Khan”-Centric Exhibit to Show
2011 marks Prop Store’s third year as an exhibitor at Comic Con in San Diego, and as has been the case in the past, they have brought an assortment of props and costumes from an assortment of film and television programs. As part of their t-shirt promotion this year, they have billed their experience “Comic Khan”, which is emblazoned across the shirts and the Khan costume from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is in the coveted display case spot at the corner of their exhibit. Second “D23 Expo” at Anaheim Convention Center in August 2011 to Again Feature “Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives”
As reported in 2009, Disney held their first D23 Expo (see “D23 Expo” at Anaheim Convention Center in September 2009 to Feature “Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives”). This year will mark the second such event, at the same facility though, per a press release, it will be twice the size. A highlight for the show will be the return of the “Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives”, boasting “80 years of Disney history”. The event is scheduled to run August 19-21. [Read more…]
Jalopnik Challenges Authenticity of “JFK Ambulance”; Barrett-Jackson Sells Vehicle for $132,000 at Auction
While not about original props and costumes from movies or television, this story is of interest in that it involves a public auction and public challenges over the authenticity of a high value item offered for sale – an ambulance said to have carried the body of President John F. Kennedy following his assassination in 1963 (Barrett-Jackson Lot: 1277 – 1963 PONTIAC BONNEVILLE AMBULANCE). [Read more…]
