The second season of the popular “American Pickers” starring Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz begins Monday, December 6th. The reality series, which features the pair in their search across America for “rusty gold”, was the #1 new cable series of 2010. As reported in September (see Mike Wolfe & Frank Fritz of American Pickers Coming to California, Seeking Movie and Hollywood Memorabilia), all new episodes will feature their search expanding to California. Mike Wolfe & Frank Fritz of American Pickers Coming to California, Seeking Movie and Hollywood Memorabilia
Yesterday I was contacted by the producer of American Pickers, which is currently broadcasting its second season on The History Channel. Mike and Frank will be traveling through California over the next few weeks, and they are interesting in finding people in the state with movie and Hollywood memorabilia collections, as well as the kind of vintage and historic material that they are traditionally seeking. If you yourself have any such material or have leads that may be of interest to the show, please contact me and I will get you in touch with the producer of the show.

eBay announced earlier this year that they would be dropping their eBay Live Auctions business on December 31, 2008 (see eBay Live Auction Format Being Retired at End of 2008). The “Live Auction” format differs from eBay’s traditional business model of scheduled, “online-only” auctions, and typically (as it relates to original props, wardrobe, and memorabilia auctions from movies and television) provides collectors the ability to bid on items auctioned “live” over the Internet, in real time, in lieu of being present at the actual auction event with people bidding in person, with the auctioneer recognizing “floor” bids, telephone bids, absentee bids, and online bids. It appears that LiveAuctioneers.com is positioning itself to absorb this business and compete in the live online auction space. [Read more…]
FTC Consumer Alert: How To Shop Wisely
Rick Spector of Stairway To The Stars sent me a link to an interesting article about an FTC Consumer Alert published on the Federal Trade Commission website this past April, which is worth reading and consideration. Though this is related to collectible antiques, it touches on many of the same issues we face as collectors of original props and wardrobe. [Read more…]
