I had heard about this auction from multiple sources going back to earlier this year, so I’m glad to see that it’s finally been officially announced. The Christie’s sale, in conjunction with EON Productions, has been titled “50 Years of James Bond – The Auction”. Given that choice Bond pieces have realized extraordinarily high prices in recent years, particularly those sales held in England, I expect that this will be a fascinating auction to watch. Some fan made video showing on set, behind the scenes film from the making of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi was published on YouTube yesterday. Filmed on Super 8 in 1982 in Buttercup Valley, California, the footage features shots of Jabba the Hutt’s sandbarge and incredible action shots of Luke Skywalker fighting his henchmen, Boba Fett flying sequences, and more. Visionary Conceptual Artist and Designer Ralph McQuarrie Passes Away at Age 82
Legendary conceptual designer and artist Ralph McQuarrie, best known for his work on the original Star Wars trilogy, passed away today at age 82. His vision was fundamental in the creation of many characters and worlds in popular films, and is greatly respected in the industry and by fans. Having passed today, a number of sentiments are being expressed on the Internet as news spreads. Friend of the Original Prop Blog – David Oliver of Propmasters – has provided some photos to share with readers of his recent visit to The National Motor Museum in the United Kingdom. The museum is currently featuring a year long exhibition of the world’s largest collection of vehicles used in James Bond films, as reported last month.
