New Zealand-based production company and audio visual retailer Rubber Monkey is holding a charity auction for a set of two clapperboards autographed by some of the cast and crew of The Hobbit, with proceeds benefiting several charities, Ronald McDonald House, Wellington SPCA, and Wellington Hospitals and Health Foundation (SAFE and NICU). I had heard about this auction from multiple sources going back to earlier this year, so I’m glad to see that it’s finally been officially announced. The Christie’s sale, in conjunction with EON Productions, has been titled “50 Years of James Bond – The Auction”. Given that choice Bond pieces have realized extraordinarily high prices in recent years, particularly those sales held in England, I expect that this will be a fascinating auction to watch. Since much of The Dreier Collection that is being sold at auction through Profiles in History (beginning with their Part 1 sale having concluded today) was originally purchased at auction through Profiles in History, I thought that it would be interesting to compare some of the lots with their original hammer price (sans Buyer’s Premium) against the new sale price from the new auction.
