ScreenUsed will be concluding their next live online auction on March 15th. The auction catalog is now available online via a PDF download via their official website and collectors can bid on iCollector. Featuring an assortment of original props, costumes, and other production material and memorabilia from film and television, this auction includes 325 lots. Highlights include a Captain Kirk Starfleet uniform from Star Trek: The Motion Picture, the guitar from Back To The Future, and lots from Blade Runner, Battlestar Galactica, Breaking Bad, Hunger Games, X-Men 2, and more. Julien’s Auctions Featured in New Lifetime Unscripted Cable Television Series, “Celebrity Home Raiders”, Premiering March 6th

Lifetime today announced that a new series – Celebrity Home Raiders – featuring Darren Julien and Martin Nolan and Julien’s Auctions, will premiere on March 6th. The half-hour unscripted series promises a look into the homes of celebrities and some of their “prized possessions”. Featured in the show will be David Hasselhoff, Ice T, Lance Bass, Fran Drescher, David Cassidy, Debbie Gibson, The Simmons Family, and Rick Harrison. [Read more…]

Premiere Props ‘Hollywood VIP Auction V’ Catalog Available Online for January 18th Sale Event

Lots for Premiere Props’ July auction have been listed online with online bidding partner iCollector, as part of their “Hollywood VIP Auction V”. The one-day auction is scheduled for January 18th, currently featuring “over 300 lots”. As with past auctions, the sale features a mix of studio-sourced material and consignor-sourced material, the latter of which includes some attributions that are not compelling with regards to provenance, such as swords attributed to Lord of the Rings, as well as material that has nothing to do with original assets from film and television productions, like Bambie and Michael Jackson Colorform sets and other lots that would fall under the broad heading of “memorabilia”. Massive Ongoing Dexter TV Prop Auction Features Hundreds of Lots from the Showtime Cable Series

This might be one of the worst publicized auctions in some time, since it has been going on since November and I didn’t hear of it until I came across an article on Collider tonight. Per a press release from a few months ago, they’ve been holding online auctions since that time. While it is heavy on set pieces and short on the wardrobe material (that VIP Fan Auctions has been selling off for many months now on eBay), there are some really nice pieces offered in the mix. RR Auction ‘Hollywood Auction′ Catalog Available for Online Sale Event Concluding January 16th/23rd

RR Auction will be holding their next Hollywood Auction online, with bidding starting on January 16th and concluding on January 23rd. The catalog, now available online, includes a majority of photos, autographs, scripts, documents, posters and ephemera, though there are original props and costumes as well, mostly from vintage/classic properties. Observations from Julien’s Auctions “The Trilogy Collection: Props and Costumes From Middle-Earth” Sale of Lord of the Rings Assets

As noted in my interview with Troika Brodsky, the owner of the Lord of the Rings collection consigned to Julien’s Auctions, we have been friends for around a decade, so I was particularly interested in this auction. Julien’s Auctions held their “The Trilogy Collection: Props and Costumes from Middle-Earth” sale event this past Thursday, which featured 92 lots of original production assets from the Lord of the Rings trilogy of films made by Peter Jackson. Gallerist Feature Tackles Auction House (Hidden) Reserves and Transparency – Heritage Auctions Leading in This Regard with Publicly Disclosed Reserves

Daniel Grant, writing for Gallerist, published an interesting article a few days ago about auction houses, reserves, and transparency (see “How Low Can You Go?: Should Auction Reserve Prices Be More Transparent?”). In his feature, he talks about how in nearly all cases, auction houses do not openly disclose the reserve (the lowest amount for which an item will sell at auction), and provides a variety of differing perspectives on how this practice impacts their respective markets and its participants. Of the auction houses specifically discussed in the article, only one – Heritage Auction – makes it known to the public what the reserve price is for every item that they offer for sale.
