Twentieth Century Fox is doing something novel, and giving away key props and costumes from a popular television series, rather than auctioning them off. How I Met Your Mother , the popular CBS sitcom, ended it’s nine season run earlier this year, and now fans have a chance to win free props from the show for free via a special Tumblr page called the “Prop-erty Vault”. This might be one of the worst publicized auctions in some time, since it has been going on since November and I didn’t hear of it until I came across an article on Collider tonight. Per a press release from a few months ago, they’ve been holding online auctions since that time. The most recognizable prop from Dexter, Showtime’s hit cable television series that is coming to an end with the current Season 8, is Dexter Morgan’s boat, “Slice of Life”. The original, fully-functional boat used throughout all eight seasons of the series by Michael C. Hall is coming up for public auction, set to begin with the airing of the final episode. The final episode, “Remember The Monsters?”, is set to debut on September 22nd. The George Barris-designed prop batmobile from the 1960s Batman television series starring Adam West sold for $4.2 million ($4.62M with fees) to collector Rick Champagne at yesterday’s Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Gilt Group has again opened a unique sale of original props for charity, this time offering material from Ang Lee’s Life of Pi, which opens in theaters in the United States tomorrow. Per the website retailer, “Lee is donating the proceeds from the props to Orangutan Foundation International (orangutan.org), after having an inspiring experience when he visited the facility while doing research for the movie”. New Zealand-based production company and audio visual retailer Rubber Monkey is holding a charity auction for a set of two clapperboards autographed by some of the cast and crew of The Hobbit, with proceeds benefiting several charities, Ronald McDonald House, Wellington SPCA, and Wellington Hospitals and Health Foundation (SAFE and NICU).
