A new item appeared on eBay today (Item # 200125383380), ORIGINAL SPIDER MAN STUNT SUIT FROM PART 3:
Full auction archived here: Full Original Spider-Man Suit Auction
From the listing description:
How can you pass this up. The ORIGINAL !!!
Rare high-end stunt Spiderman costume (movie version) from “SPIDER-MAN”. Can be worn or just displayed on mannequin. Has 3-D webbing on bodysuit and special eyes lenses. A MUST have for any serious Spiderman collector. Comes with a stone engraved COA. PLEASE NOTE: There is no way to prove if this was “SCREEN USED”, however it is a production suit.
I would be curious to know if it is authentic (in my opinion, it differs in appearance from the costumes seen in the film).
If it is authentic (it is characterized as “Original” in the title of the auction and description and is listed on eBay under Entertainment Memorabilia -> Movie Memorabilia -> Props -> Originals), I’d be curious to know in what capacity and under what circumstances it was released from the studios, given:
1) that Hollywood Vault has been officially auctioning off parts of original costumes (see articles Notable Studio Auctions: Spider-Man 3, and Business Practice: Prop Butchers), and
2) the events surrounding the costumes found in the marketplace circa the first film that were characterized as stolen (see external articles Stolen Spiderman Suits Owner in Burbank to Stand Trial and You Call This Security? and Missing superhero suits recovered) which were, according to these reports, valued at $50,000+ each.
