Insuring Your Original Prop Collection
One common question that comes up in the hobby is how to protect your collection from theft, damage, and other risks.
Upon the recommendation from other collectors who have used them, I started using Collectibles Insurance Agency some time ago.
Here is a link to their online brochure that outlines the basics of their services: LINK
It appears that they only issue policies within the continental U.S., so if you are overseas, you will have to find similar services in your respective country.
I have thankfully not had to make a claim with CIA, but know collectors who have and were very pleased with the service and responsiveness. As far as the policy itself, you are required to note a one line description for those items in excess of $5,000 in value; a detailed inventory is not required item-by-item on pieces of less value.
One aspect of the policy I appreciate for piece of mind is that it also covers (to some degree) purchases as well as shipping and receiving parcels sent via specific service levels (i.e. with tracking, etc).
Anyway, I thought I’d make a note of this service so that collectors can investigate this and similar services in the event it might be of use to them. I’ve found that traditional home owner’s coverage is not comprehensive enough to match the needs of my original prop collection.
