This article marks a milestone for the Original Prop Blog – the 1,000th article. When I started the site back in April 2007, I honestly did not ever imagine that I would produce this much content. So the occasion provides an opportunity to reflect back, look forward, and thank those that have supported this endeavor.
As the site has grown over the years, my hope is that it serves many purposes, including those objectives, ideas, and principles long ago articulated on the “About The Original Prop Blog” page.
Hopefully those who follow the site have benefited from the content, as I know I have personally learned quite a bit from producing it.
I’ve met and come to know an extraordinary number of individuals over the years, and would like to thank those who have supported the OPB from behind the scenes with tips, news, insights, and other help and support, as well as those who have read and enjoyed the site, and told others about it to help it to grow its audience.
While it has already grown far beyond what I’ve ever imagined, with 1,000 posts (in addition to other static pages and content) and heavy traffic (with over 30 million hits and 3.5 million page views), I do have plans to continue to build on the Original Prop Blog and to add additional resources (like the Community, Directory, and Twitter) and to do my best to give back to the hobby for which I personally have a great fondness and appreciation.
As I’ve said before, film and television are important to our culture, and preserving these artifacts used in the production of these works is important, so that future generations can continue to celebrate the culmination of so many of our arts, and these artifacts which play a role in building on our relatively recent and contemporary iconography.
