Profiles in History have published their new catalog for their “Hollywood Auction 74”. The three day auction features over 1,900 lots of mostly film and television related memorabilia, and a small mix of rock and roll lots. The print and online catalogs are now available for Prop Store’s second annual Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction. It will be held at the Odeon BFI IMAX in Waterloo, London on September 23rd. Profiles in History is bringing a massive collection of original production material from the popular musical television series Glee to auction, with the online only event being held on September 17th and 18th. Local mainstream media outlets in Youngstown, Ohio are reporting on “what investigators say is the biggest case of domestic fraud in the history of the online auction site eBay“. Of course, sports memorabilia is the fraud that was targeted, not entertainment memorabilia… the story by WFMJ states that the “alleged enterprise involving phony autographs on sports memorabilia… cheated 25,000 people out of more than $2-million dollars”. Hopefully, someday, law enforcement will investigate the long term eBay dealers that have been selling common antiques like plates and telephones and ashtrays attributed to classic television shows and movies (which, like the fake sports memorabilia with forged autographs, include worthless COAs from companies with the worst reputations in this art market). A mix of film, television, and rock and roll, though there are many lots, the original props and costumes from film and television are few and far between – much of the offerings can be classified as general collectibles.
