I did not learn of this auction promoted by Lloyds Auctioneers and Valuers until now, which appears to have taken place on 03/27/2011 Australia time (yesterday). While the title of the auction is “Costumes & Props from Major Fantasy Movie”, there is a page on their official website with photos entitled “Narnia”. A news article by Gold Coast News reports that the material sold was from The Chronicles of Narnia, The Voyage of the Dawn Trader.
Full details about the sale can be found at the official Llyods Auctioneers and Valuers website at www.lloydsauctions.com.au:
The auction catalog was a sparse 5 pages, including cover and auction terms, with no photos. Much of the material appears to have been sold in bulk lots. Terms outline an hour and a half for pre-auction inspection, a 12.5% buyer’s premium, requirement for payment on the day of the auction, and pick-up of items within three days. The word “Narnia” does not appear in the catalog. The catalog can be downloaded below:
I learned of the auction via a story about it on the Local Gold Coast News out of Australia at goldcoastnews.com.au (see “Fantasy film buffs spend $80K at auction“):
Per the article, while the auction grossed more than $80,000, it appears that lack of promotion resulted in great deals for collectors who were aware of the sale, noting that a suit of armor worn in The Chronicles of Narnia, The Voyage of the Dawn Trader sold for $300.
The same article features an assortment of photos from the auction – see Gallery | Fantasy Film Prop Auction; below are a few examples:
