Tom Spina Designs has added a new page to their website which showcases one of their latest impressive display pieces, designed to showcase an original animatronic piece from Ghosbusters as well an create a compelling and unique way to make it recognizable while still revealing the inner workings of the puppet.
The prop brought to TSD – the infamous Stay Puft Marshmellow Man which terrorized New York in the film – was the mechanical “underskull” used in the movie. As the original “skin” of the piece had not survived to present day, TSD recreated the “marshmellow”-like skin and covered one half of the head symmetrically, so as to bring the piece back to life, make it instantly recognizable, as well as inject context into the inner workings of the armature as they relate to the familiar face.
