Every year, San Diego Comic Con is recognized as the pop culture event, attracting over 100,000 attendees from tickets sold out six months earlier, as well as creators and companies from essentially all aspects of genre entertainment (film, television, gaming, comic books, and more). This year more than ever, the hype, announcements, and news aare playing out before the event opens it’s doors. As put quite succinctly by Comic Book Resources earlier today, BREAKING NEWS: NOTHING NEW IN SAN DIEGO. Having said all of that, I will be there to cover the event from the perspective of producing content of interest to collectors of original props and costumes (as was done in 2008 and 2009).
As in previous years, both Prop Store (Booth 3645-3647) and Profiles in History (Booth 1605) will have prominent displays and exhibits and, in many ways, serve as the ambassadors for the hobby to the huge gathering of fans of TV and movies. I’ve always found it interesting to spend time at their booths simply to watch the reactions of attendees to what they have on display, and the questions they ask about them and the field at large.
Profiles in History will have, in addition to material from LOST in promotion of next month’s auction event, a number of original pieces in tribute to Stan Winston (see press release published in Reader Comment below).
I also expect to find some interesting displays and items of interest from other companies, as we’ve seen in the past with Disney and others.
