WIRED published a great video about the eagerly anticipated Summer blockbuster District 9, which opens theatrically today. Included is a segment with information about the props made for the film. Featured within the video is an interview with Greg Broadmore, a designer for WETA Workshop, from the floor of last month’s San Diego Comic Con.

Studio prop seller Premiere Props recently listed for sale on eBay a replica District 9 Arc Gun. While Premiere Props is well known as a dealer of original and authentic props used in films, direct from the studios, this was a departure in that the piece was sold as an “authentic replica”. It is unclear if it was made by WETA Workshop, though sold for only $1,445.00. The auction states that “[a]ll proceeds to be given to The Sue and Bill Gross Stem Cell Research Center”.
Below is an archive of the auction (District 9 Arc Gun Movie Props):
The following was posted in the eBay listing Q&A by Premiere Props:
Hello, the prop is made from cc60 urethane and high density foam HDR 400, with a mild steel internal armature. It also has an LED light that lights up and flickers when the trigger is pressed.
At this time, this is the only prop from District 9 that is available to the public.
