Per reports from the Los Angeles Times, TMZ.com, and the USA Today, Michael Jackson was pronounced dead today following a cardiac arrest and coma. The “King of Pop” has been in the news in recent months as a result of his sold out come back concert tour and a dispute with Julian’s Auctions over the sale of personal memorabilia from Neverland Ranch.
In April, the MJJ Productions lawsuit against Julian’s Auctions was settled out of court about a week before the auction was scheduled to take place in Beverly Hills, CA.
Jackson is one of the most recognizable celebrities the world has known, and has been in the media spotlight since his childhood as part of the Jackson Five with his siblings. In his lifetime, it is reported that he sold more than 750 million records, and is “one of the most successful entertainers of all time”.
Given the tragic events, there is a possibility that the Hollywood memorabilia that was slated to be sold at auction in April may at some point be made available for sale at auction, unless a museum or exhibit is developed to memorialize the pop star.
