It was recently announced that Disney will be holding it’s own fan convention and expo, which will also feature an exhibition of the “Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives”, including original movie and television props, costumes, and other artifacts. Tickets are now on sale for the “D23 Expo” event, to be held at the Anaheim Convention Center September 10th – 13th, 2009.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at D23Expo.com, which will also host the latest information about the event:
The “Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives” will include highlights such as the 11-foot model of the Nautilus from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and the jewel-encrusted book used in the opening of Sleeping Beauty.
An excerpt from the official site:
You’ve seen them on film – the legendary Disney props and costumes that are an intrinsic part of American pop culture: Annette Funicello’s Mickey Mouse Club sweater, Captain Nemo’s Nautilus and of course, Davy Crockett’s Coonskin Cap. But have you seen them in person? Well now the time has come.
Please join us at the D23 Expo for a very special glimpse into the fantastic world of the Walt Disney Archives as we throw open the vaults and bring out the “crown jewels” of our amazing collections, in a brand new exhibit entitled, Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives.
For the very first time, visitors will have an opportunity to view, up close, an unparalleled display of some of the most iconic Disney assets of all time. Here you will see items relating to Walt Disney the man, famous pieces from Disney parks, as well as iconic props and costumes from classic films and television shows.
Whether it’s Walt Disney’s nametag, Herbie the Love Bug, or Hannah Montana’s guitar that is your “must see,” this is one exhibit no one in the family will want to miss!
It appears that the expo will include a full slate of programming and events related to Disney properties new and old.
