Notes/Commentary/Analysis:
This costume includes a letter of authenticity from Armando Alvarez (“Super Hollywood”). Interestingly, while this letter is dated October 15, 2008, three similar letters were featured with another Superman cape and costume with cape offered for sale on eBay in the last update by seller “cupidsarrow08”, all dated November 18, 2008 (just a month later). Below is a comparison between the four letters:
While the market is already flooded with “gifted” Superman costumes and costume parts, with most of those archived on this site connected to Armando Alvarez/Super Hollywood/Ana Mungia/MGM Studios/The Superboy television production, these are very recent examples presumably sold within the last six months and offered again into the marketplace shortly thereafter as “original” and “authentic”.
The “Bermans & Nathans” label also exhibits qualities that are not consistent with those genuine examples as discussed in prior articles (see Superman Costumes in the Marketplace: Bermans & Nathans Wardrobe Tag Analysis).
In just the past few months alone, a number of “original” Superman capes have been offered for sale on eBay:
- super38 (Armando Alvarez) | eBay Item #260352590092 | February 2009 [see Superman Costumes in the Marketplace: January 2009, Part 2]
- super38 (Armando Alvarez) | eBay Item #250368771509 | February 2009 [see Superman Costumes in the Marketplace: February 2009, Part 1]
- tstaff1977 | eBay Item #280314002720 | February 2009 [see Superman Costumes in the Marketplace: February 2009, Part 2]
- super38 (Armando Alvarez) | eBay Item #250394493797 | March 2009 [see Superman Costumes in the Marketplace: March 2009]
- cupidsarrow08 | eBay Item #250391999212 | March 2009 [see Superman Costumes in the Marketplace: March 2009; see also relist below]
- bass1truex | eBay Item #230337076665 | April 2009 [see above]
Two eBay listings archived in the March 2009 update by seller “cupidsarrow08” – a cape and a costume – both sold at auction. However, both have been relisted this month, and these relists are archived below.

I had just had this on ebay but the winner is no longer registered memeber and is not replying to my emails. I have decided to relist it….
This is the “dirty” Superman cape from Superman 3. This movie is best known for the scene when superman is fighting himself in the junkyard. the cape is the darker one from the evil superman. The letter of authenticity is from Anna Mungia the head costumer from MGM/DISNEY. It also comes with a letter from Armondo Alverez (Super Hollywood) who originally received it from Ana Mungia. I was looking for 1800 or best offer. I TOOK A PICTURE OF ANOTHER CAPE I HAD WHICH IS FROM THE FIRST FILM. I POSTED THIS PIC TO SHOW WHAT IT WOULD LOOK LIKE IF YOU PUT IT IN A DISPLAY ASWELL. THAT IS NOT THE CAPE FOR SALE AS IT IS FROM THE FIRST MOVIE AND IS A LOT BRIGHTER IN COLOUR. I AM NOT SELLING THE DISPLAY THAT YOU SEE IN THE PICTURE. The second picture I added is the true colour of the cape, Maroon with a darker yellow. Any further questions feel free to email. Thanks

Full Auction Archive: “Superman suit from Superman 3 Christopher Reeve”
Description:
I had this suit up for auction a couple of weeks back but the buyer misread the listing. The display does not come with the suit. If I get more than what i’m asking for the suit then i will include the display for free. (local pick up). This is the “dirty” Superman suit is from Superman 3. This movie is best known for the scene when superman is fighting himself in the junkyard. There were different stages of colours as the suit turns darker gradually through the movie. The tunic and the leggings are from the earlier stages as they are a dark blue, yellow and dark red. The belt is believed to be used through the flying scenes in the last stages before the junkyard scene as it is the darkest yellow. The cape is also used in the earlier stages as it is a dark red and not maroon. The letter of authenticity is from Anna Mungia the head costumer from MGM/DISNEY. It also comes with a letter from Armondo Alverez (Super Hollywood) who originally received it from Ana Mungia. This auction comes with 4 letters in total, 2 for the cape and 2 for the suit. I was looking for $6500 or best offer. Any questions feel free to email me, Thanks
