Per reports from the Associated Press, both a spokesman for Michael Jackson and Julien’s Auctions have said today that – as part of a settlement agreement in the widely publicized dispute – Jackson will retain possession of the approximately 2,000 personal items which have been extensively marketed as for sale at an auction which was to have taken place April 22-25 in Beverly Hills.
Earlier this month, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brett Klein ruled in favor of Julien’s Auctions and denied Michael Jackson’s MJJ Productions efforts to have his personal property from Neverland Ranch returned.
Today’s events and announcement are in advance of the last scheduled motion and hearing before a different Los Angeles Superior Court judge, which would have otherwise taken place tomorrow.
The exhibition of the items is reported to continue through April 25th. Per the AP report, Mr. Julien claims to have spent $2 million dollars in organizing the sale.
Per TMZ, the terms of the settlement are confidential. CNN reports:
“We resolved everything with Michael Jackson,” Julien’s Auctions owner Darren Julien said. “We came to a resolution that both sides are very happy with.”
Items listed for sale online at LiveAuctioneers.com already have bids placed by interested buyers.
The auction house had previously said they spent $2 million organizing the sale and it was guessing the items could have fetched $12 million.
As reported in previous articles – see Auction Events | Julien’s Auctions | Michael Jackson – Michael Jackson’s MJJ Productions filed a lawsuit against Julien’s Auctions for the return of personal property from the Neverland Ranch that was consigned to the auction house with the sale originally planned this month.
