Jez at StarWarsHelmets.com sent me a link to an excellent “video review” of an original Stormtrooper helmet he had an opportunity to examine in 2004. This is a very rare helmet in that it is HDPE/Polythene “Fishpond” helmets produced for Star Wars: A New Hope before changing to use of ABS material. More, it was subsequently reused in The Empire Strikes Back, and screen-matched to a scene in the film.
This helmet was originally sold at auction by Christie’s at their South Kensington sale December 14, 2004 (Christie’s Archive). It realized a price of $25,278 (including Buyer’s Premium). It was subsequently sold at auction by Profiles in History at their “Hollywood Auction 21” event April 1, 2005 where it realized $34,500 (including Buyer’s Premium).
More information and analysis about this helmet can be found at StarWarsHelmets.com.
Below are archived of the Christie’s and Profiles in History auction catalog pages featuring this helmet:
Special thanks to Jez for producing such an informative and entertaining video – I am definitely looking forward to more “video reviews” from StarWarsHelmets.com.
