This is an archive of one of the Superman costumes previously offered in the marketplace, on eBay, that has not been captured in prior articles. As is the case with other articles, this serves to archive listings of costumes marketed as “original” and “authentic”, worn by Christopher Reeves in the Superman films of the 70s and 80s.
This item was auctioned in December 2007, sold on eBay as “Christopher Reeve Superman III Evil Costume Suit Prop”:
High Resolution, Full Auction Archive: billybats11 eBay Auction – Christopher Reeve Superman III Evil Costume Suit Prop
Marketing Description:
Hello! You are all bidding on an Authentic Superman III Evil Costume Suit Prop, worn by Christopher Reeve himself in the movie Superman III. For those who want to know where I got the suit from. I was walking through the streets of NYC, when someone in an alley whistled at me and said: PSSST, hey kid, I have an authentic Superman III Evil Suit, want to buy it for $100? So I bought it, and here we are!! LOL! I’m just kidding!! Pretty much lots of people know my suit and where I got it from.
This suit was purchased DIRECTLY from Jim Hambrick himself, from the Supermuseum in Metropolis, IL.
This is a FULL Authentic Superman II Evil Suit!! No reproduction Belt, Boots or Cape, as all the other people have out there! Every piece, all 5 pieces are included, Tunic, Leggings, Belt, Cape, and boots, all authentic and used in the movie Superman III. Comes with a 4 page Letter of Authenticity(LOA), written and signed by Jim Hambrick. The LOA explains which scenes the suit was used in, the color and material used for the suit, and description of each part of the suit, tunic, leggings, belt, cape, and boots. The suit is based off the Original suit from the first films, Superman the Movie & Superman II, same design and measurements, just different colors to make him “Dark”
1. Tunic: The Tunic has a Bermans & Nathams *B&M) label on it! Also reads: “Christopher Reeve Colour E 18632 Superman III” Based on research, the Belt did have a B&M label on it awhile ago, but not anymore, or as long as I have it from 2005! The Tuni also has 2 “female” black half in snaps are sewn along both the left and right shoulder of the tunic.
2. Leggings: Are size 34, with footingsewn on. As I found out from Jim the Footings were later swen on during production.
3. Cape: This is a flying cape, 2 straps, 1 on each side. Has padded shoulder lining. A group of 8 “Female” snaps, 2 rows of 4, used to attach”cape Flapper”. Another 2 pair of 2 “male” snaps to attach to the tunic’s shoulder.
4. Belt. Vinyl belt with tan leather backing, and the plastic buckle.
5. Boots: Maroon pair of Superman boots, size 11. Soft leather. Both boots left, right, read “CR No 6” in black marker. These boots are the traditional Red Boots used in the original 1st movie Superman the Movie & Superman II. They were dyed maroon for the “Dirty Suit”(Evil Suit)! You can definitely see traces and hints of red leather on the inside!
Well I described the Suit as best I could! There is a whole lot of writing on the suit for each piece. Which ncludes more details, actual colors, measurements, belt detail, on the cape for the flying scenes, and more! Did not want to include it in the auction due to Authenticity purposes, people copying the suit!
I’ve had this on ebay before! People keep asking me about measurements and details, and exact colors. Sorry can’t give you that. But hey if you really want to know, buy the suit!! You will be buying and Authentic Movie Memorabilia piece, and know everything there is to know about the suit, every detail!!!
Shipping is FREE!!! OVERNIGHT Delivery, with Tracking/Signature required! In the US, as well as Over Seas/International!!! Insurance will be up to you! Last time I wrote this someone had to told me sounds fake, because I included Free Shipping. Reason I am including Free Shipping, because due to high price these suits sell for.
Happy Bidding!!! Don’t hesitate to ask any questions! Contact me any time: [email protected]
Pictures Don’t do it justice! I Repeat, PICTURES DON’T DO IT JUSTICE! Makes it look like a 100 year old rag, but really it an mazing piece!! Looks great, especially on display!
Because it was fairly extensive, I also archived the listing Q&A page at the time of the auction:
Of particular interest with this costume, comparing with other examples in the marketplace, is the heavy weave fabric, the Bermans & Nathans label, and the design of the “S” emblem, along with other details seen in the photos seen in the full auction archive above and seen in these image crops:
This costume will be compared directly with other examples in future articles.
I did not record the sale of this suit, if there was one. There is no feedback left nor given on the billybats11 account, reflecting this eBay listing number.
This is part of the ongoing series of articles about costumes in the marketplace attributed to use by Christopher Reeve in the Superman films of the 70s and 80s (see “Questions About Superman Costumes in the Marketplace: Authenticity, Sources, Quantity“).
