Advocate ReporterNEWARK — After demonstrating the use of several different weapons Saturday at the Ohio Martial Arts Championship, Martin Miller went to his instructor’s car to find the weapons had been stolen, including a sword featured in the movie “Kill Bill.”
Miller said he bought the sword and scabbard, valued at $2,700, on eBay several years ago.
“All the metal on it is 24-karat gold,” Miller said.
The Ohio Martial Arts Championship took place Saturday at the Newark campus of Ohio State University and Central Ohio Technical College. Miller said he helped judge at the event and then demonstrated the use of each weapon.
After he finished his performance, he took the weapons back to his instructor’s car, locked it and went back inside to help others carry out their gear.
“This was after I had done my demonstration. I came back out, and it was all gone,” he said.
Miller said he doesn’t have a connection with the movie except that as a martial artist he found it intriguing.
“It is a very unique sword,” Miller said.
Aside from being made of white and yellow gold, Miller said a Japanese triangle and devil’s head are carved into the sword. It is about 27 inches long and features a wrapped handle.
Along with the sword, a martial-arts sai, a 6-foot bo staff, a pair of nunchaku, firing gear, an ID and a uniform were stolen.
However, these items were bought out of a catalog and aren’t unique.
Miller said the sword is sharpened and could be used as a weapon.
