As reported last month (see article Classic Car Auction & Show: Auburn 2007), 5,000 cars were auctioned by Kruse in the 37th edition of the “World’s Largest Collector Car Auction and Show”. A few cars offered were used in film and television.
The results are now available on the Kruse.com website: LINK
Of the cars used in film and television, here are a few of the results…
- Lot 3037: 1967 Lincoln Gadgetmobile – SOLD $17,500
- Lot 3044: 1969 Dodge General Lee Display Car – SOLD $10,000
- Lot 3042: Men in Black 1987 Ford Sedan – SOLD $7,000
- Lot 762: 1966 Ford Thunderbird from Thelma & Louisa – SOLD $45,000
- Lot 3036: 1967 Pontiac GTO State of the Union – SOLD $40,000
- Lot 3038: 1961 Volkswagen Bug Herbie the Love Bug – SOLD $21,000
While some cars obviously did better than others, in terms of prices realized, of those I looked up, all sold. I’m not a car guy, but I would guess some at KBB value with not much attributed to use in film or television.
So if anything, “movie cars” seem to sell better in venues in which cars are sold to car collectors, rather than “prop cars” being sold to prop collectors (see article Profiles in History – Car Auction in the News, which appeared to result in none of the four cars being sold at the August Profiles event).
