I was recently contacted by John Long, Asset Coordinator for Hollywood Parts (www.HollywoodParts.com) about letting other collectors know of this business. I was previously unfamiliar with the business, but curious about learning more. He didn’t mind answering a few questions for the benefit of interested readers…
Q. Are you the owner or Hollywood Parts, or an employee?
A. I am an employee at Hollywood Parts.
Q. How long has Hollywood Parts been in business?
A. 3 years
Q. What kind of services do you offer?
A. We offer asset management for the entertainment industry. We deal with storage, sale, or rent on any props, wardrobe, sets, etc. whatever the production wants to do with their property we can make happen.
Q. What films have you worked on and/or rented items to?
A. So far the list is thus: Cavemen, Bridge to Tarabithia, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, Hannibal Rising, Hannibal, The Great Buck Howard, Journey 3-D, Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium.
Q. How do you come to own the props and memorabilia that are offered on your website?
A. Productions and/or studios become a client with us and decide to store their assets with us. We can then sell or rent any item they wish.
Q. How do the studios of those films view sales of such items? Promotion?
A. It depends on the studio and the show itself. Whether or not they want to wait for the release of the film or if they would just want to sale off the props at picture wrap.
Q. What kind of provenance/paperwork/letters do you include with original props and memorabilia sold through your site?
A. We offer Certificates of Authenticity (free if item is $200+) and can provide any other form as proof of the items origin.
Q. What kind of growth do you see with your business?
A. We may be new to the scene, but given our current growth rate we expect to double with another year and so on.
Q. Do you yourself collect original props?
A. No, plenty of personal collectibles though, but no original props.
