As a follow-up to an article from April, “Displaying Your Collection: Glass Display Case (Detolf)“, which was a review of Ikea’s “Detolf” case, Ikea has come out with a new display case – Biby.
In comparison to the Detolf, which is essentially all glass sides (with supports) and painted wood top and bottoms, the Biby is metal and glass, taller, a bit more narrow, and features key locks. The Biby is also slightly more expensive ($79.99 vs. $59.99).
As with the Detolf, they are fairly basic and clean-looking and relatively easy to put together (though challenging to move around due to the weight of all the glass).
Also, as with the Detolf, each shelf height is set – so you can either have shelves in each of the designated places, or opt to not have a shelf on any of the spots for larger items.
There are two colors available – red and white. What follows are some photos of the two I purchased over the weekend (not optimal, as shot with lots of flash and no natural light):
