Article Summary: An entertaining anecdotal story about a collector and his acquisition of 16 foot replica Mariah Carey legs.
Extreme Collecting: Mariah Carey’s Legs and “In Touch” Magazine
So a friend of mine and fellow original prop collector sent me an e-mail about a month ago entitled “Mariah Carey’s Legs” that opened: “My name is Philip and I’m an auction addict…”
Flash forward three weeks, and I receive another e-mail, “Once in a lifetime invitation for Friday the 13th”:
Today only! You are invited to watch the arrival/installation of Philip’s latest endeavour (or addition to his addiction)… a 16 foot (that is correct) replica of Mariah Carey’s legs autographed by the living legend. They are being delivered to my place on a 68 foot (!) moving truck from New York City between 11 am and 1 pm on Friday the 13th (and yes, in keeping with the lucky day… it is scheduled to rain). The custom crate weighs 3000 lbs! A photographer will be on hand and I’ll be interviewed for Entertainment Weekly’s “In Touch” magazine (due out next week in stores). You could be quoted for the article (say nice things).
In case you haven’t heard the background, I saw the legs online at a charity auction (funds go to help NYC kids get some fresh air at summer camp). Venus (Gillette) named Mariah as having the best legs in the country. They had the legs custom made. They appeared on the Today show, E!, and were unveiled at Radio City Music Hall. They’ll now be living in my garage until debuting at a future event (maybe the bus fundraiser in August or my client appreciation Academy Awards party next year).
In keeping with the Mariah theme, I just purchased her outfit from the film “Glitter”. A critic’s review stated, “The role fits Mariah like one of her tight dresses”…
Enough said.

And, as promised, a week later, The In Touch Magazine Article:
They did get a few of the facts wrong (they must have been so dazzled by the legs, they didn’t know what state they were in!). Philip is spelled with one “l”, he lives in Seattle with his Mariah legs (not L.A.) and he’s a bit older than they attribute in the article.
Here is a video of Mariah and Philip’s giant legs accepting the “Celebrity Legs of a Goddess” award:
Well, I think it’s safe to say that I don’t know any other collectors with a 16 foot tall, 3,000 pound prop featured in In Touch magazine…
