I was fortunate to have had an opportunity in 1995 to see a very special exhibit of original props, costumes, models, and other assets from Star Wars: A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. Entitled “The Art of Star Wars”, the pieces were provided by Lucasfilm and the event was hosted by the Center for the Arts in Yerba Buena Gardens, San Francisco.
This was a fantastic exhibit and the first time I had seen any original props. It was astounding to have seen such iconic pieces, and so many of them.
I took photos with a film SLR camera, and scanned the photos in 2003. I had published these on an old website, and at some point, actually lost my own copies of the files. The original photos are still in storage somewhere, but I was able to find my original scans on a back-up CD I recently came across, so unfortunately, the resolution is somewhat low by today’s standards. Once I find the original photos and/or negatives, I will rescan and upgrade this article with higher resolution imagery.
In the meantime, below are scans of the original photos – please click on each image for the higher resolution version.
